Helimed 54 Installs HEMS-Station® Portable Lighting Solution

FEC Heliports are extremely pleased to have recently provided an expedient, low maintenance and cost-effective portable heliport lighting solution for Helimed 54, based at Nottingham Heliport.

Helimed 54 (part of The Air Ambulance Service) approached FEC Heliports with the pressing requirement to have 24/7 operational capability, for their new Nottingham Heliport base location, at the end of last year. Our imediate solution was the FEC Heliports HEMS-Station® and solar wind cone, as this ICAO compliant illuminated helipad lighting system can be fully installed in a day!

The Helimed 54 HEMS-Station® system installed was the standard mains version, consisting of 10 MIL-Star® lights and a Mobile Lighting Controller (MLC), so that the portable lights can be activated air-to-ground from the aircraft cockpit on approach, via VHF command.

Pad-Star® Solar Lighting System Relocation for LNAAC

Back in November 2019; FEC Heliports carried out an exciting 3 site Pad-Star® Solar installation programme for Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance Charity (LNAAC). One of the sites in question was their HQ base at RAF Waddington, where we installed a Pad-Star® Solar system as a temporary upgrade to replace their existing unreliable and tired lighting array, before they moved to their fantastic new state of the art HQ base close by (also fitted with an extensive new Pad-Star® system).

Subsequently, LNAAC identified a new requirement for night operations at one of their regional trauma centres - the Pilgrim Hospital, Boston. So, the existing kit, from the RAF Waddington base, was then easily decommissioned by an FEC Engineer and relocated at the Boston site. This HLS has now been fully night operational for the past 2 weeks, since installation and commissioning, providing improved critical care for the local community and exemplifying the easy relocatability of the Pad-Star® Solar system.

The reused Pad-Star® system installed at the Pilgrim Hospital consisted of 12 off ground mounted green perimeter lights, 1 off red approach light (indicating North) and 1 off Solar Mounting Post with Lighting Controller and RF kit, for Air-to-Ground remote pilot activation.

We look forward to hearing from you to discuss the HEMS-Station® or Pad-Star® Solar Lighting Systems and hopefully assist with your heliport lighting requirements further. Please contact: sales@heliportsequipment.com
